Good to know

What is special about 2033?
  • In 2033, six public holidays fall on a weekday; between 2024 and 2035 it is 6 to 9, depending on the year.
  • Falling on a weekend: New Year's Day (Sat 1 Jan), St. Joseph's Day (Sat 19 Mar) and Christmas Day (Sun 25 Dec). As a rule, there is no entitlement to a substitute day.
  • In 2033, Swiss National Day (Mon 1 Aug) and Assumption Day (Mon 15 Aug) also give you a long weekend without taking leave.
  • The most worthwhile bridges: Epiphany, Ascension Day, Corpus Christi, All Saints' Day and Immaculate Conception, each with 1 day of leave for 4 days off in a row. Calculate all bridge days in 2033
What is different in the canton of Schwyz?

Apart from Valais, Schwyz is the only canton in which St. Joseph's Day (19 March) is a public holiday. Easter Monday, Whit Monday and St. Stephen's Day, on the other hand, are only cantonal rest days and therefore working days under employment law. In addition, some municipalities and districts have their own holidays, such as St. Meinrad's Day in Einsiedeln.
