What is special about 2026?
- Falling on a weekend: Swiss National Day (Sat 1 Aug). As a rule, there is no entitlement to a substitute day.
- In 2026, Christmas Day (Fri 25 Dec) also gives you a long weekend without taking leave.
- The most worthwhile bridges: New Year's Day and Ascension Day, each with 1 day of leave for 4 days off in a row. Calculate all bridge days in 2026
What is different in the canton of Aargau?
In Aargau, many public holidays depend on the district, a legacy of the canton's religious history. Only New Year's Day, Good Friday, Ascension Day, Swiss National Day and Christmas Day apply throughout the canton. Corpus Christi is a public holiday in the traditionally Catholic districts of Baden, Bremgarten, Laufenburg, Muri and Zurzach and in the east of the Rheinfelden district. Easter Monday and Whit Monday are public holidays in, among others, the Protestant districts of Aarau, Brugg, Kulm, Lenzburg and Zofingen.
